Remembering September 11th 2001

"I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope". Jeremiah 29:11

I will never forget September 11th 2001.  I was working on a radio show in Boston.  Moments after the plane hit, calls started flooding in from people personally affected by the attacks.  People who had family in the buildings.  People who wondered if their family or friends were on the flights.  It was terrifying and calm, all at the same time.  One call that will forever be etched in my memory is a call from the wife of one of the captains of the plane that hit the tower. She was so upset and yet so calm.  I remember her going on the air and talking about what a wonderful woman her husband was, and how he would have done his best to care for the people on that plane.  It was so powerful.  There was so much love and faith on that day -a day filled with so much fear.

At my next job (at another radio station), I met my friend Debbie.  Debbie was a single mom with two young boys.  She is a cancer survivor and one of the strongest women I know.  She had a client who lost his wife on September 11th, and he was now a single dad of 2 young girls.  They came together as friends, and ended up in love.  I was blessed to attend their wedding, which was a beautiful coming together of two families who needed each other.

In the face of tragedy, there is always hope.  I love this quote....

"Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping."  This always rings true for me.  No matter what the situation, people are always helping.  Good always wins over evil.  God will always prevail.

Today my heart is heavy for those lost, and my heart is hopeful that someday we will find peace on this earth.
